Educators Publishing Service (EPS) was created after teachers at the Manter Hall School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, became frustrated at the lack of quality English materials for their students and began to develop their own vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension worksheets. The headmaster of Manter Hall, Robert G. Hall, decided to publish these materials to make them available to other teachers. He incorporated EPS in 1952.

Bob Hall spent more than 60 years promoting and improving education, particularly for dyslexic children. He and his wife, Eleanor Thurston Hall, were both passionate about helping students with learning differences. The Halls were involved with the Orton Dyslexia Society (ODS), which evolved into the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). Mrs. Hall was Vice President of the ODS and served on its Board and Council of Advisors. The Halls were both active in all phases of the ODS: fundraising, conferences, publications, as well as donating money for more research into dyslexia. Mrs. Hall said in the 1984 Annals of Dyslexia publication, “It is an exciting and rewarding experience to find the resources within one’s self to release potential in others.”

Bob and Eleanor were lifelong educators, dedicated supporters of IDA, and very passionate about helping children with dyslexia become successful readers.

In honor of the Halls, EPS is proud to continue our partnership with the International Dyslexia Association and to once again offer the Robert G. and Eleanor T. Hall Memorial Scholarship. The annual Hall Memorial Scholarship allows teachers and administrators who diligently work with students with learning differences attend IDA’s annual conference as a means of increasing their own knowledge of dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
