Based on strategies the author uses in her own classroom, this new series teaches students a reliable method for analyzing and solving math word problems. The book covers each of the 4 operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Students learn to identify key words, draw pictures, and disregard unnecessary information. Simple problems are illustrated to provide visual reinforcement. Students then move on to more challenging problems: 2- and 3-digit numerals and numbers written in word form. In later sections students create their own word problems and write explanations detailing the steps they took to solve each problem. Mixed exercises further challenge students.
